Condensed milk coffee is a sweet and decadent way to enjoy homemade coffee. This is the exact method I use to make my Nespresso coffee whenever I’m craving a more rich, indulgent coffee. However, you can use this coffee recipe on any type of coffee you can make at home!
What do you need to make condensed milk coffee?
- coffee
- condensed milk
- half and half or plain creamer
- optional: ice
What kind of coffee should you use?
You can use just about any type of coffee to make this condensed milk coffee recipe. I’ve used my Keurig, Nespresso, and even instant coffee to make this recipe and they all turned out delicious! However, I would try to avoid any type of presweetened instant coffee. Unless you prefer coffee on the sweeter side, condensed milk is already a sweetener on its own so you might end up with an over-sweet coffee.
My favorite types of coffee to use for this recipe tend to be dark roast coffees. In my Keurig, I love making condensed milk coffee with Peet’s French Roast, Starbucks Sumatra, and Starbucks Caffe Verona. When using my Nespresso machine, I really love making this recipe with Nespresso Stormio or Nespresso Odacio. I always buy the Nespresso medium and dark coffee variety pack that includes Stormio, Odacio, and Melozio. It’s a great mix of medium and dark coffees if you’re looking for variety!
How to make sweetened condensed milk coffee
- Take a spoonful of condensed milk and place spoon in large coffee cup.
- Place coffee cup with spoonful of condensed milk where you would normally place your cup when making coffee. Choose your favorite Nespresso pod and make coffee as you normally would with your Nespresso machine. If you are using a Keurig or instant coffee, make coffee as you normally would too into the cup with a spoonful of condensed milk.
- Once coffee is in the cup, use a spoon to mix everything together. Add in a splash of half and half or creamer to your preference. Ready to enjoy as is hot. If you prefer your coffee cold, let coffee cool in fridge for ~10-15 minutes before pouring coffee into a cup of ice! Enjoy!
Can you use espresso instead of coffee?
Yes you can make condensed milk coffee with espresso. In fact, espresso is what’s mostly used in Vietnamese style coffees. If you do use espresso, this recipe works best with a double shot of espresso. Instead of topping the espresso with half and half or creamer, add in milk to add creaminess while adding in more volume too. This recipe is basically a latte but with a spoonful of condensed milk for extra sweetness and flavor.
Where can you find condensed milk and can you replace condensed milk with evaporated milk?
You can buy condensed milk at most supermarkets. It’s usually packaged in a can and can be found in the baking aisle. However do not confuse condensed milk with evaporated milk. If you can’t find condensed, do not replace it with evaporated milk. Evaporated milk is not the same as condensed milk. Evaporated milk is sometimes known as “unsweetened condensed milk” and is basically milk that has had more than half of its water content removed. In contrast, condensed milk is sometimes called “sweetened condensed milk.” In addition to having some of its water content removed, condensed milk also has sugar added to it.
How to store leftover condensed milk
After opening a can of condensed milk, store condensed milk in an airtight container in the fridge. I like storing mine in a small mason jar. It can keep for about 2-3 weeks.
