This easy Asian garlic noodles recipe is ready in about 20 minutes and is so addicting! The noodles are packed with lots of garlic that is slowly caramelized in olive oil. Chili oil and oyster sauce are surprising ingredients in this recipe and add so much depth and umami. The recipe calls for shrimp, but you can easily exchange with chicken, tofu, sausage, or even leave out the protein completely. A perfect quick meal for any garlic and spicy lover!
What you need to make Asian garlic noodles
- 8 oz spaghetti
- 5 tablespoons minced garlic cloves
- 2 green onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
- 6 large shrimps (optional)
Ingredients for sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (I prefer using light soy sauce)
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons chili oil/chili crisp
How to make these spicy garlic noodles
- Cook pasta to al dente according to package instructions. Drain and rinse noodles with cold water. Add a drizzle of olive oil to prevent noodles from sticking to each other.
- While noodles are cooking, mince garlic cloves, chop green onions, and prepare shrimp or protein of choice.
- In a small bowl, mix all ingredients of sauce together. Set aside.
- In a large pan, heat up oil and melt butter with low heat. Add in garlic and slowly soften and caramelize garlic (about 5 minutes).
- While garlic is caramelizing and pasta is cooking, season cleaned shrimp with dash of white pepper and sprinkle of salt. Add in seasoned shrimp to melted butter. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side. After flipping one side of the shrimp, add in green onions and sauce. Mix everything together for about 1 minute.
- Once green onions are soft, add in cooked noodles. Add in cheese and mix everything for another minute or so. Serve with a crusty baguette or as is!
