The best bok choy recipe that’s ready in less than 10 minutes! This bok choy with garlic chili oil is packed with lots of flavor and is so easy to make. It’s a perfect vegetable side dish or just as delicious on it’s own over a hot bowl of rice.
What you need for this bok choy recipe
- 5 cups bok choy (I prefer using baby bok choy)
- 10 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon chili oil
- 2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil such as avocado oil
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (preferably Chinese light soy sauce)
Today, you can find bok choy at most grocery stores. I’ve even purchased it prepackaged and ready to cook from Trader Joe’s. Although, I will warn you that Trader Joe’s bok choy is significantly more expensive than what you will pay at the Asian market. If you are able to make the trip to the Asian market, you’ll find bok choy in different sizes. There’s the really big ones that almost look like lettuce leaves. There’s baby bok choy that comes in the most perfect single bite serving. Then there’s a mini baby bok choy that is even smaller than the baby bok choy. You can cook this recipe with any type of bok choy you can find or prefer. However, my favorite is baby bok choy, which requires less prep and results in the perfect bite!
How to cook bok choy
You can boil or stir fry bok choy. You can even steam or roast it! However, my favorite way to cook bok choy is to quickly boil the leaves, remove from the heat, and then pour a hot, savory sauce on top. Cooking bok choy this way reminds me of how they serve vegetables from the dim sum cart. Quickly boiled then topped with an oyster sauce based dipping sauce. This recipe combines the savoriness of oyster and soy sauce with the spicy chili oil. It’s just so delicious over a hot bowl of rice and makes the perfect compliment to any Asian main dish! Here is the recipe to this quick and easy bok choy with garlic chili oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and light soy sauce. Set sauce aside for later.
- Fill large pot with water and bring to a boil. While waiting for water to come to a rolling boil, prepare vegetables. Clean and cut bok choy into smaller pieces. If you are using baby bok choy, cut bok choy in halves. If you are using larger bok choy, cut bok choy into quarters. Chop up garlic into small pieces.
- Once water has come to a boil, add cleaned and prepped bok choy. Boil bok choy for 2 minutes. Remove bok choy, drain, and plate all the bok choy.
- In a small pan, heat up 2 tablespoons of oil. Add garlic and chili oil and stir with low heat for about 1-2 minutes or until fragrant and garlic has softened. Stir constantly to prevent burning the garlic. Add in the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil mixture. Stir fry for another 30 seconds.
- Pour sauce over bok choy and serve immediately.

An fascinating dialogue is worth comment. I believe that it is best to write more on this subject, it may not be a taboo topic but typically individuals are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
